Dear All

Today is Tuesday, May 26, 2009

(I finally got my laptob working)from day one (May 15th) when we arrived, Yousef, was taken by the team of Doctors of the Burn Unit in Percy Hospital (the Military Hospital). He was checked thorally and diagnosed with a serious infection (carried from Kuwait's ICU)so the first priority was to control the infection and preserve the life. And that is exactly what they did. They even opened a hole in his throught to ease the breathing and to give the enough space to address his face and neckYousef sufferred third degree burns to 41%of his body: Neck, left and right Arms, Chest, Abdamen, right Torso, and mid to lower Back.He is considerd stable (in terms of all body-functions: Heart, Lungs, Livear, Kidneys, and brain activity). Thanks to God that it stopped there. On day 2 Saturday They addressed all the wonds and located the area of the infection (the Chest and Abdamen), they also worked on finding the right antibiotics that is most suitable for his skin and other defficiencies (Yousef is G6P-D).

Ofcourse they put him under sudation, he is completely out (induced or controled Coma). They allowed us to see him through a glass window, the visits are limited to one person, one hour a day between 3pm and 4pm.on day 3 SundayHis tempreture is quite high, reached 40.5 degrees, this is a major consern, which means that the infection in not subsiding. They identified the type of bacteria (two kinds, one is originated in Bangladish - guess where did he get that from). They have administerred a new type antibiotics specially made for this type of bacteria).on day 4 MondayThe tempreture is still high, and not subsiding.

They decided to take out the dead tissue in his chest and abdamin where they think the bacteria is.He is scheduled for operation tomorrow.on day 5 TuesdyYousef, is out of surgery, they will not know the degree of success until after 3 days.on day 6 WednsdayYousef is still sleeping, but the good news is that his mpreture has gone down 38.6 degreesonthe surprise was that he was awake, grougy but awake and aware of whats going around him.we talked he nodded (he can't talk because of the breathing machine and tube through his throught).

on day 7 ThursdayYousef's temreture and the infection is under controle (white cells count is going down)They coverd his chest and abdamin with a natural skin brought from the SKIN BANK (donated skin).

on day 8 Friday May 22nd, 2009Yousef went through his second operation, they addressed the dead tissue in his right ArmHis body-functions are still goodthe tempreture is 35.3 (they said it is quite normal for a burned person after surgery.they coverd his with foil and placed a machine on him that looks like a grill... this is administerred in order to help raise his tempreture.note that the normal tempreture for a burned person is about 38 degrees.

on day 9 SaturdayYousef's tempreture is back to 38.1 which is normalhe was aware of what around him, his body is overcoming the druggs, which is quite normal.on day 10 SundayThe assessment of the first surgery is out, Yousef is not rid of the bacteria 100%, but it is under control.his body-functions are still good.

on day 11 MondayWe sat with the Head Plastic Surgen, she explained to us why they are not going to administer Antegra (aritificial skin graft) to Yousuf, it is because of the infection that he suffered before.

They can only adminster that on 100% clean tissue. But they are going to use some other methods that will have the same success for Yousef.Huda and I have concluded that with God's guidens Yousef is in better hands. today is the 12th day and we are going to visit him in a short while I am realy sorry that i did not write before, but I had to do few things before being able to write, find an appartment, get a connection and fix my labtop.

I am overwhelmed with the calls and support that I got from people that I know and others that I didn't but wish to know, specially Mr. M.E. [I am not sure if wants me to mention his name] (the person responsible for arranging the Royal Plane to tranfer Yousef to Percy Hospital one day earlier than it was schedualled)Thanks to all and God bless you all.

Thank you for keeping us informed about Y's condition and progress. I know this must seem like a very bad dream, but, Inshallah, one day you will be w/ your son somewhere and think back of this time as something that just came and went. We pray for Y to be safe, healthy, and of strong will. We pray for you and your wife to be viligent, strong, and faithful. If you don't mind sharing w/ us how this accident came about. Perhaps you can help us to prevent such a tragedy. I recall many years ago where my husband innocently brought home a flare(for the runway)and forget about it. My 5 yr old found it and was able to ignite it. I was on the phone and suddenly he came running into the room holding this stick of fire. Thank God he didn't throw it on the floor and ignite the whole place up. My instinct was to run w/ this fire that I took from his hand, and run I did. I ran to the bathroom and threw it into the toilet and shut the lid. My husband never brought home anything like that again. I always tell this story because I can't help but think of the tragedy that could have happened. Take care & best wishes.
